Vergina & the Royal Tombs
The tomb of Philip II, father of Alexander the Great — a UNESCO site, one hour from the city.
The drive
The museum is built inside the burial mound itself: you walk down into darkness and see the tombs where they were found, with the golden larnax and the Vergina sun. It combines easily with Veria (15 minutes) and the rivers of Naoussa. Half a day is enough.
What to watch out for
- Usually closed on Tuesdays — confirm opening hours
- It is cold inside the museum even in August
- Free parking right at the entrance
Road: A1 & Veria road
